New Zealand: Regional flight disruptions occurring at Wellington International Airport as of Dec. 14

Regional flight disruptions ongoing at Wellington International Airport, New Zealand, as of Dec. 14 due to technical issue.

Warning

Event

An instrument failure is causing flight disruptions at Wellington International Airport (WLG) as of Dec. 14. Officials say the instrument, which aids smaller aircraft in landing, is affecting regional flights. WLG had canceled more than 60 flights canceled as of midday Dec. 14. The outage is not affecting jets, and larger planes are still operating at the airport.

Poor weather conditions have prevented authorities from recalibrating the instrument; WLG officials claim disruptions could continue into Dec. 15. Lingering flight disruptions are possible once regional services resume as airlines clear passenger backlogs.

Advice

Confirm flights at WLG through at least the morning of Dec. 15 as a precaution. Do not check out of accommodations until onward transportation is confirmed.
