Activists plan protests in central Lima, Peru, Dec. 7. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Several groups have called for protests in Lima Dec. 7 to demand President Pedro Castillo's resignation. Protesters plan to gather at the Legislative Palace building from 08:00. In a related event, the Workers' General Confederation of Peru (Confederacion General de Trabajadores del Peru, CGTP) plans to protest at Plaza Dos de Mayo from 10:30. Hundreds to thousands of people could participate in the actions. Additional demonstrations may be announced at short notice.
Heightened security and localized business and transport disruptions are likely in central Lima through at least the evening of Dec. 7. Authorities may close roads and divert traffic and public transportation along affected routes. Clashes between police and protesters are possible, especially if activists attempt to breach any security cordons.
