Barbados keeps COVID-19-related restrictions largely unchanged as of Jan. 6 compared to those in place in December; curfew still in effect.
Event
As of Jan. 6, authorities in Barbados have kept the country's COVID-19-related domestic measures and international travel restrictions largely unchanged compared to those in place in December. The only recent change to the measures is an order, effective Jan. 7, allowing travelers to enter the country with proof of a negative result from a rapid PCR test taken within 24 hours prior to arrival.
Domestic Measures
A nightly 00:01-05:00 curfew remains in place. During curfew hours, only those providing essential services and those responding to an emergency may leave their homes.
All businesses, except for nightclubs, are allowed to operate provided they adhere to strict protocols on the use of protective facemasks, social distancing, and sanitation, as well as other industry-specific guidelines. Fast-food restaurants may only offer delivery or takeaway services, cinemas may accommodate no more than 100 people, and bars can only operate outdoors. Those attending events must be either fully vaccinated or have a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken within the 24 hours prior.
Remote work is encouraged where possible. Wearing a facemask remains mandatory in all public spaces; children under five years of age are exempt.
International Travel Restrictions
To enter Barbados, incoming international travelers must present a negative result from a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival; however, from Jan. 7, incoming travelers may instead opt to present a negative result from a rapid PCR test taken within 24 hours prior to arrival. Travelers must also submit an immigration and customs form either online or in hard copy to authorities by the time of arrival. The form is available online or on the BIMSafe mobile application.
Fully vaccinated travelers may be selected to take a rapid antigen test upon arrival at Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI). Individuals may travel through the country upon receiving a negative result. All travelers must wear a facemask at BGI.
Unvaccinated travelers must complete a mandatory quarantine period at a government-approved accommodation; they must also undergo another PCR test on their fifth day in the country and may leave quarantine if this test result is negative. Any traveler who tests positive for COVID-19 must enter an isolation facility.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
