LGBTQ activists plan to protest in downtown Izmir on Jan. 28 to denounce a recent spate of transphobic attacks. Participants will gather outside the Konak Municipality Cultural Center on Cyprus Martyrs Avenue at 18:00. Attendance will likely not exceed the low hundreds.

Police will almost certainly deploy in the vicinity of the protest. Clashes between activists and security personnel are possible; police in Turkey can be quick to resort to forceful methods to disperse demonstrations.
