Pro-government activists plan commemorative march in Caracas, Venezuela, from 10:00 Jan. 23. Heightened security likely.
Event
The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela, PSUV) has called for a rally march in Caracas Jan. 23 to commemorate the anniversary of the 1958 revolution that ousted military dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez. Activists plan to gather at the Taxi Driver's Corner at 10:00 before marching to Miraflores Palace. Hundreds to several thousand people may join the action. Counterprotests are possible.
Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely near the gathering locations and intended march route. Clashes between rival groups are possible. Police may use force, particularly against any disruptive anti-government groups, and deploy tear gas and rubber bullets.
Advice
Avoid the rally due to possible clashes. If violence break out, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the impacted locations.
