Chad: Opposition political party plans march in N'Djamena Feb. 18
Opposition political party to march in N'Djamena, Chad, from 07:00 Feb. 18. Violence possible; avoid all demonstrations.
Event
The Socialist Party Without Borders (PSF) political opposition group plans to hold a protest march in N'Djamena, Chad Feb. 18. Organizers have announced that the march will begin 07;00; participants will gather at the Chagoua and Dembe roundabouts and the Bourse du travail (Labor Exchange). The purpose of the action is to denounce insecurity and injustice in the country. Authorities have not given permission for the march to occur.
Should the protest action go ahead, authorities will almost certainly deploy security personnel near the gathering and in the vicinity of any related protests that may occur. Localized transportation disruptions are likely near demonstration venues. Clashes between protesters and security forces remain possible, especially if the event goes ahead without government permission.
Advice
Avoid demonstration venues in N'Djamena. Keep away from any areas where security forces appear to be deploying; leave the area at the first sign of any confrontation. Allow extra time to reach destinations.
