Event

A magnitude-5.3 earthquake occurred offshore west of Cyprus at around 23:03 EET Feb. 2. The epicenter was about 52 km (32 miles) west-northwest of Pegeia, Cyprus. The temblor struck at a depth of about 29 km (19 miles). Light to moderate shaking was reported throughout Cyprus and Northern Cyprus, while weak to light shaking was experienced in parts of Antalya, Karaman, Mersin provinces in Turkey. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake; however, significant damage is unlikely. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Light to moderate aftershocks are likely over the coming days.

The quake has not triggered any tsunami warning.
