Italy: Ground staff strike to stage 24-hour strike at Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate airports Feb. 25

Ground staff to strike at Milan Malpensa and Linate airports, Italy, Feb. 25. Passenger processing delays and flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Unionized ground staff employed by airport management company SEA plan to stage a 24-hour strike at Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Milan Linate (LIN) airports Feb. 25. The purpose of the work stoppage is to protest a decision to outsource IT services. It remains unclear how many workers will participate in the labor action.

The strike could disrupt support services and flight schedules at both airports; however, it is unlikely to be crippling as Italian law mandates minimum levels of essential services during labor actions. Disruptions could extend for several hours after workers resume their duties.

Advice

Confirm flight status at MXP and LIN before setting out for the airport on Feb. 25. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional time to check baggage and clear security.
