Event

Drivers of Karuia Bus, which runs Noumea's bus system, are reportedly continuing to strike as of Feb. 21. Organizers commenced the indefinite strike Feb. 14 to demand improved working conditions. Most buses affected by the strike are operating at minimal service, while some other services are suspended; bus service disruptions are likely to persist until the strike concludes. Increased demand for alternative transport is possible. Karuia Bus has not provided any additional updates on the strike as of Feb. 21, having previously announced information on the labor action Feb. 13.

Striking drivers may hold associated protests; possible protest sites include bus depots, government buildings, and major roadways. Any protests that occur may involve dozens to a few hundred people.

Security personnel will likely monitor any demonstrations and may try to disperse especially disruptive gatherings. Clashes between protesters and police are possible.

Advice

Monitor bus service schedules and seek alternative means of transport if necessary. Avoid any related protests due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions.
