New Caledonia: Ouanaham and Mare airports to reopen from Feb. 20 /update 3

Local authorities will reopen Ouanaham Airport (LIF, Wanaham Airport) on Lifou Island and Mare Airport (MEE, La Roche Airport) on Mare Island from Feb. 20. Officials closed LIF and MEE from Feb. 14 and Feb. 15, respectively, due to a dispute over the cost of COVID-19 tests for unvaccinated people seeking to obtain a health pass.

Lingering flight disruptions are possible through Feb. 20 due to a backlog of passengers affected by the closures, as well as a potential surge in demand.

Advice

Confirm flight schedules at LIF and MEE through at least Feb. 20. Do not check out of accommodations until verifying onward travel. Heed all official advisories.
