Pakistan: Protesting fishermen block Karachi Port shipping channel Feb. 22

Pakistani fishermen block Karachi Port shipping channel to protest Balochistan fishing ban as of Feb. 22. Disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Protesting fishermen have used their vessels to block the Karachi Port shipping channel as of late evening Feb. 22. The purpose of the action is to protest a ban on fishing in Balochistan. The blockade has effectively closed Pakistan's largest port and prevented the movement of cargo vessels into and out of the facility. It is unclear how long the protest could last.

Additional security forces will almost certainly deploy to monitor the protest. Lingering disruptions to port operations could continue even after the protest ends.

Advice

Avoid the protest area. Plan for short-term cargo disruptions or delivery delays if routing shipments via Karachi Port.
