Emergency crews are responding to an explosion along Airport Road near Jinnah International Airport (KHI) in Karachi late Oct. 6. Preliminary reports indicated that an oil tanker truck exploded in the area; the blast reported also affected other nearby vehicles. There have as yet been no official reports of casualties from the incident; however, several casualties are likely.
A large presence of emergency responders will probably remain deployed in the area into the early hours of Oct. 7. Road closures are likely, and disruptions to air travel at KHI cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the area. Confirm travel arrangements if booked to fly via KHI through at least the early morning of Oct. 7. Heed instructions from authorities.
