Unidentified assailants ambushed security personnel near Natiaboani, East Region, March 20. The attack left at least 13 members of the security forces dead and eight others injured, while several assailants have also been neutralized. There has been no claim of responsibility; militants affiliated with Al-Qaeda or the Islamic State often stage attacks in the region. In addition, unknown assailants kidnapped up to 15 residents at the locality of Nagre, near Natiaboani, March 18.

Natiaboani is located on the outskirts of the Arli National Park, neighboring Benin's Pendjari National Park.
