Botswana: Authorities modify COVID-19 international entry restrictions as of April 22 /update 38
Authorities in Botswana modify COVID-19 international entry restrictions as of April 22; domestic restrictions remain in place.
Event
As of April 22, the government has relaxed testing requirements for international arrivals. Travelers with two doses of a vaccine may enter without the need to present a pre-departure test. Unvaccinated travelers must show a negative PCR test result taken 72 hours before arrival.
Domestic Measures
Public gatherings can resume with strict health protocols in place.
Facemasks are mandatory in public.
International Travel Restrictions
International and domestic air travel has resumed. Land border crossings are open.
Vaccinated travelers with two doses of a two-dose vaccine, or one dose of a one-dose vaccine must present proof of a completed vaccine scheme. Unvaccinated travelers must show a negative PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours before arrival. Health screenings are possible upon arrival at the airport for all travelers.
Travelers entering the country must self-monitor and remain in contact with local health authorities for 14 days.
There is no cost for testing on arrival. Those that test positive or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms will be placed in quarantine at their own expense.
Returning Botswanan citizens and legal residents who do not possess a negative COVID-19 test certificate will be tested at the border and face up to 14 days of quarantine at a government facility.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
Advice
Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays.
