Iraq: Baghdad International Airport (BGW) suspends flights April 12 due to inclement weather

Baghdad International Airport (BGW) in Iraq suspends flights April 12 due to a dust storm. Reconfirm flights.

Warning

Event

The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority has announced the suspension of flights at Baghdad International Airport (BGW) April 12. The action has been taken due to poor visibility on the runways resulting from a dust storm. The General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring has forecast dust storms across Iraq April 12. The dust storms are forecast to become more intense throughout the day, before clearing up late April 12; however, further dust storms are possible in the coming days, which may lead to more disruptions.

Lingering disruptions are probable after normal operations resume as airport staff work to clear backlogs.

Advice

Confirm flight schedules. Make alternate travel arrangements if scheduled to travel to and from BGW. Contact airlines to change flights or seek refunds.
