Montserrat: Authorities ease COVID-19-related travel restrictions as of April 29 /update 29

Event

Authorities on Montserrat have eased the island's COVID-19-related controls as of April 29. Under the new directives, only unvaccinated nonresident technicians have to complete the online pre-travel declaration form. Additionally, authorities have reduced the mandatory quarantine period for unvaccinated travelers to 10 days. Vaccinated travelers do not have to undergo quarantine provided they test negative for the virus upon arrival.

Domestic Measures
All businesses, schools, and religious establishments may operate in line with pandemic-related protocols for businesses. Restaurants, bars, and other establishments serving food may provide in-house dining during the evening provided they have implemented sanitation and seating plans approved by the Ministry of Health. Establishments must enforce social distancing measures, use enhanced sanitation procedures, and comply with other sector-specific measures. All persons are required to wear a facemask in public and in business establishments, as well as on public transport.

International Travel Restrictions
All travelers to Montserrat, with very limited exceptions, must have a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR, RNA, or antigen test taken no more than three days prior to departure; antibody tests are not accepted. Nonresident technicians who are not fully vaccinated and are planning to travel to Montserrat must first apply to the Ministry of Health to receive permission to enter. Upon receiving entry authorization, they must also submit an access declaration form at least 72 hours before travel.

Most unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers must also self-quarantine for 10 days from the date of entry, as well as test negative between 8 and 10 days after arrival. Children under five are exempt from the testing requirement. Travelers who are fully vaccinated and test negative upon arrival do not have to self-quarantine. Fully vaccinated travelers who test positive must self-quarantine until receiving a negative result. Those in quarantine may be required to wear an electronic monitoring device for the duration of their isolation.

Authorities may amend travel and business restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on COVID-19 activity.
