Nigeria: Customs agents to strike at Lagos ports from 10:00 April 25
Unionized Nigerian customs agents to strike at Lagos ports from 10:00 April 25; disruptions to port operations possible.
Event
The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has announced a strike in Lagos starting from 10:00 April 25 to denounce the introduction of a 15 percent levy on imported vehicles. Participants are to gather in front of the Grimaldi Group office on Tincan Island before marching through cargo terminals on the island. Organizers stated that an indefinite strike could follow should the levy not be repealed.
An increased security presence is possible in the vicinity of the protest march. Disruptions to port operations are likely should the strike go ahead.
Advice
Confirm maritime shipments and port-handling operations scheduled April 25. Allow additional time to route freight through Lagos ports during and immediately after the strike. Consider alternative shipping methods for critical freight. Avoid all demonstrations as a routine precaution and to mitigate possible disruptions.
