Nigeria: Electricity outages to persist in parts of Ogun State over the coming days following April 13 collapse of transmission towers
Electricity outages likely to persist in parts of Ogun State, Nigeria, following April 13 collapse of transmission towers.
Event
Electrical power outages will likely persist in parts of Ogun State over the coming days following the April 13 collapse of three transmission towers on the Papalanto/Ojere line. The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has announced that Abeokuta, Ayetoro, Imeko, Owode Egba, and Mowe will experience power outages until the towers are rebuilt; the company has given no estimated time frame as to when the new towers will be completed. Power disruptions in other areas of the state cannot be ruled out.
Temporary commercial and communications disruptions are possible in the affected areas. Traffic disruptions and longer driving times are possible during these periods due to malfunctioning traffic signals. Power outages could also result in the temporary unavailability of essential facilities such as ATMs and filling stations.
Advice
Plan accordingly for electricity disruptions. Conserve batteries and restrict cellphone use to emergencies in case power outages become protracted. Exercise caution when driving or crossing streets in areas where traffic signals are malfunctioning.
