Event
Several major cities in North America have increased security around subway systems as of April 13 in response to a shooting incident in Brooklyn, New York, April 12. Affected cities include Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, and San Diego in the US, as well as Toronto, Canada. Officials in the cities outside of New York taking additional security measures have clarified that they are heightening security out of an abundance of caution and that there is no credible threat at this time. The measures being implemented include increasing patrols of officers and explosive detection teams in and around subway stations and asking subway passengers to report any suspicious activities and to remain vigilant when using public transport.
Further measures, such as increasing security around key infrastructure and other forms of public transport, are possible in the coming days. Heightened security measures could also extend to cities outside of those listed above.
