Canada: Unionized healthcare workers in southern Manitoba Province threaten to strike from Oct. 8

Healthcare workers in southern Manitoba affiliated with the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU) have threatened to strike from Oct. 8. The purpose of the threatened labor action is to demand higher wages and contract improvements. Unless averted, the strike will disrupt nonessential services at healthcare centers in cities, including the following:

• Winnipeg

• Brandon

• Dauphin

• Portage la Prairie

• Winkler

• Steinbach

Associated protests are likely, particularly near healthcare centers and government buildings; these will likely remain peaceful. Localized transport and business disruptions are possible near protest sites.
