The outage is reportedly affecting Melbourne Airport (MEL), and over 30, 000 users in the western suburbs of Airport West, Footscray, and Maribyrnong. Flight operations are normal at MEL. The cause of the outage is not immediately clear; officials have not announced when services will normalize.

Commercial and transport disruptions are possible. Businesses without backup generators may have to suspend operations. Traffic lights may not function, resulting in traffic disruptions, and public transport that relies on power may be affected.
