Unionized railway workers schedule strike in Lombardy and Tuscany, Italy, May 15-16; travel disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Unionized railway workers employed by Trenord in Lombardy and Trenitalia in Tuscany have announced a strike May 15-16. The strikes will take place as follows:

  • Lombardy: 03:00 May 15-02:00 May 16

  • Tuscany: 03:30 May 15-02:30 May 16

Long-distance trains will not be affected, although regional and suburban services are likely to be significantly delayed or canceled. Services operated by Trenord personnel linking Lombardy to Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Piedmont, and Liguria will also be affected. Trenord has advised passengers not to travel May 15, adding that trains to Milan Malpensa (MXP) will not run. A rail replacement bus service will operate between Milan Cadorna railway station and MXP.

Despite Italian law typically guaranteeing a minimum level of service during transportation strikes, this will not be the case May 15 as it is a public holiday.

Advice

Confirm train schedules in advance May 15-16. Seek alternative means of transport if necessary.
