Suspected armed bandits attacked several villages in two local government areas (LGAs) in Zamfara State May 6-7, killing at least 55 people. Militants killed 48 people, including two security officials, in Damri, Kalahe, and Sabon Garin villages in Bakura LGA May 6. Seven people were killed in Faru and Kauyen Minane villages in Maradun LGA on May 7. No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks as yet.
Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence across the impacted area in the near term. Officials may set up checkpoints in the affected area, leading to likely localized transport disruptions. Given the pervasive insecurity, further such attacks are likely in the near term.
