Nigeria: Education staff strike ongoing nationwide as of May 13 /update 2
Teachers affiliated with ASUU union in Nigeria striking nationwide as of May 13. Student protests likely to continue.

Unionized teachers are maintaining a nationwide strike as of May 13. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), representing university personnel, had called the action Feb. 14 after the government failed to implement several demands. Union representatives announced May 9 an extension of the work stoppage by 12 weeks. Related protests remain possible in the vicinity of education facilities and government buildings.
In addition, various student groups, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), have called on students to continue demonstrations until the resumption of academic activities. In recent weeks, protesters have gathered in Abuja, Lagos, across Ogun, Osun, and Oyo states and blocked the Ibadan-Ife and Lagos – Abeokuta highways, among other affected locations. Future gathering locations may include the ASUU headquarters near the University of Abuja on Airport Road. Participants may obstruct access to Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV) if such gatherings occur.
Heightened security and localized traffic disruptions are likely in the vicinity of all protests. Clashes with security forces remain possible.
