Authorities in Itajuba, Minas Gerais State, have asked residents to remain in a safe location while they continue security operations following a criminal attack in the city early June 23. Armed individuals attempted to rob a bank, clashed with police, and attacked at least one resident. The incident left at least five people injured, including a local resident and four police officers.

As officers continue searches, at least one armed confrontation was reported between the cities of Brasopolis and Paraisopolis, in sourthern Minas Gerais State, where a suspect was detained. Authorities are continuing searches in small towns around Itajuba, as they estimate at least 12 individuals were involved in the attack and are likely hiding in the region. Authorities have confirmed that searches are ongoing in several towns, including Sao Lourenco and Pouso Alegre, both located over 70 km (43 miles) from Itajuba.

Further armed clashes involving the security forces and suspects are possible in the areas surrounding Itajuba. Disruptions to travel and businesses, including suspension of public transport services and classes are possible June 23. Heightened security is likely to persist through at least June 24.
