Unidentified assailants attacked the Karma gold mine, run by Endeavour Mining, in Yatenga Province, early June 9. Preliminary reports indicate that an unspecified number of mine employees have been injured, while infrastructure damages have also been reported.

The mine is located about 14 km (9 miles) east of Ouahigouya.

Officials will likely maintain an elevated security posture in the vicinity of the mine over the coming hours and days. Increased security patrols and checkpoints will likely cause localized ground travel disruptions. Further such attacks cannot be ruled out.
