France: Public transport operator in Montpellier suspends tram and bus services for the remainder of June 8

Public transport operator in Montpellier, France, suspends tram and bus services for the rest of June 8; increased road congestion likely.

Warning

Event

Montpellier's public transport operator, Transports de l'Agglomeration de Montpellier (TaM), has announced that all bus and tram services in the city are suspended for the remainder of June 8. The move comes after a TaM bus driver was attacked by a passenger with a knife at around 15:00; all drivers subsequently returned TaM vehicles to depots, prompting services to be suspended from around 16:30.

Increased road congestion and reduced taxi availability are likely over the coming hours as commuters seek alternative transport options in the absence of bus and tram services. TaM expects normal services to resume June 9.

Advice

Anticipate transport disruptions in Montpellier on the evening of June 8. Reconfirm travel plans and arrange alternative transport if necessary; allow extra time to complete journeys.
