Additional demonstrations likely in Bavaria, Germany, through June 28 amid 48th G7 Summit at Schloss Elmau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen District.

Informational

Event

Additional demonstrations are likely in Bavaria through June 28 amid the 48th G7 Summit taking place at Schloss Elmau in the state's Garmisch-Partenkirchen District. Thousands of people have participated in related protests in Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in recent days to demand that G7 nations take action to address climate change, poverty, and global food insecurity, among other issues; police and protesters briefly clashed during the otherwise peaceful Munich demonstrations June 25, resulting in the arrests of nine people. Another demonstration is slated to take place some 500 meters (0.3 miles) from Schloss Elmau June 27.

Authorities have implemented tight security measures in Garmisch-Partenkirchen District to facilitate the summit, including movement restrictions. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely in areas subject to heightened security measures and protest activity. While most protests and rallies will likely pass off peacefully, isolated clashes between activists and police cannot be ruled out, particularly if participants attempt to breach any security cordons.

Advice

Avoid related demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate the impact of associated disruptions. Allow extra time for travel in protest-affected areas through June 28. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
