Initial reports indicate a weaponized drone targeted the vicinity of the new US Consulate in Erbil building at around 22:00 June 8. While some vehicles have been damaged, there have been no immediate reports of casualties from the attack, which reportedly hit Shaqlawa Road; no group immediately claimed responsibility. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that explosions were heard in the vicinity of Erbil International Airport (EBL).

Increased security is likely in the vicinity of the new US Consulate building and EBL through at least late June 8 as authorities investigate and respond to the incident. Disruptions to airport operations at EBL cannot be ruled out. Additional attacks remain possible over the short term.
