Iraq: Protests ongoing in Nasiriyah June 19

College graduates are protesting in several locations in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, including along the Al-Zaytoun and Al-Nasr bridges, as of the morning of June 19. Protesters have reportedly blocked traffic along both bridges with burning debris. The purpose of the action is to demand more employment opportunities.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture in the protest area until the situation stabilizes. Localized transport disruptions are likely through at least late June 19. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible over the coming hours. Further related protests are possible in the coming days.
