Iraq: Protests reported in Nasiriyah June 12

College graduates are protesting in several locations in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, including along Al-Zaytoun and Al-Nassr bridges, June 12. Protesters have reportedly blocked traffic along both bridges with burning debris. The purpose of the action is to demand greater employment opportunities. Attendance appears to be tens of people.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture in the protest area until the situation stabilizes. Localized transport disruptions are likely in the area through at least late June 12. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible over the coming hours. Further related protests are possible in the coming days.
