Nigeria: Authorities lift security-related curfew in parts of Bauchi State as of June 15 /update 1
Officials lift security curfew initially imposed in parts of Bauchi State, Nigeria, due to communal violence, as of June 15.
Event
As of June 15, authorities in Bauchi State have lifted a curfew imposed in the Yelwan Tsakani, Lushi, and Anguwan Kusu areas on the outskirts of Bauchi city, in the namesake state, April 27. The curfew was imposed to stem communal violence and reprisal attacks that left at least three individuals dead and several houses damaged or destroyed.
Context
Communal violence is often driven by competition for access to resources such as grazing areas and water. Clashes may fuel rounds of reprisal attacks between various communities, sometimes causing heavy casualty tolls.
