Armed clashes, protests, and roadblocks are possible in Atico, Arequipa Province, through at least June 13 following a series of firefights between illegal mining groups in the area that has left at least 14 people dead and eight others missing. While police have deployed to the area and have arrested dozens of people in connection to the clashes, on at least one occasion, police have come under gunfire. Locals protesting the violence temporarily blocked ground transport in and out of Atico June 7; similar demonstrations and roadblocks may occur with little to no warning.
