A large landslide in Chavin de Huantar buried at least 150 houses and killed at least one person June 30. Reports indicate that the hillside above Chavin de Huantar suddenly collapsed into the town. Authorities have deployed rescue teams to evacuate the residents. The cause of the landslide is unclear.
There will almost certainly be a heightened security presence in the area as rescue teams attempt to evacuate residents. Transport disruptions in the area are likely, with possible blockages on Highway 110. Localized disruptions to electricity, telecommunications, and water services are possible.
Chavin de Huantar is 270 km (168 miles) north of Lima.
