Spain: Unionized EasyJet staff at three airports in Spain to strike July 1-3, 15-17, and 29-31

Unionized EasyJet staff at three airports in Spain to strike July 1-3, 15-17, and 29-31; airport and flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

The Union Sindical Obrera (USO) union has called for its members employed by EasyJet (U2) at three airports in Spain to stage a series of strikes throughout July in a dispute over pay. The impacted airports are Barcelona El Prat (BCN), Malaga Costa del Sol (AGP), and Palma de Mallorca (PMI) airports. USO estimates around 450 workers will take part in the action. Unless averted, the participating workers will stage 24-hour strikes on July 1, 2, 3, 15, 16, 17, 29, 30, and 31.

If the actions go ahead, EasyJet flights operating via those airports on strike days will likely experience disruptions, including delays and cancelations. The actions could also result in disruptions at the airport themselves with long queues for check-in and security procedures. Disruptions could extend into subsequent non-strike days as airports work to reposition aircraft and reduce any backlog.

Advice

Reconfirm flight status if booked to fly with EasyJet or via affected airports on strike days. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive early at airports to allow extra time to clear passenger processing procedures.
