Event

Members and supporters of the March for Our Lives organization plan to hold protests in multiple locations throughout the US June 11 to demand legislation that would stiffen regulations on the use and sale of guns in the country.

The main protest is scheduled to occur in Washington, DC, where activists intend to gather around the Washington Monument starting at 12:00.

Other protests have been confirmed in the following locations:

  • Albany, New York: West Capitol Park, 10:00

  • Atlanta: Ebenezer Baptist Church, 13:00

  • Boston: Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park, 15:00

  • Chicago: Federal Plaza, 12:00

  • Denver: Civic Center Park, 09:30

  • Houston: Houston City Hall, 10:00

  • Los Angeles: Grand Park, 12:00

Thousands are likely to participate in some of the largest demonstrations, especially in Washington, DC, where tens of thousands are likely to gather. Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely around the demonstrations. Counterprotests are possible in some locations; clashes are unlikely to occur but cannot be ruled out, especially if counterprotests materialize.

Context

March for Our Lives organized its first nationwide protests in 2018, weeks after a mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, ended with 17 people killed, most of them students. The June 11 demonstrations will be the second nationwide series of protests organized by the group, motivated by the recent mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children and two teachers were killed.

Advice

Avoid the demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach your destination if traveling in a protest-affected area; consider taking alternative routes to circumvent related disruptions. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
