Opposition activists in Bosnia and Herzegovina to protest in Sarajevo at 19:00 July 25. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Activists and opposition parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Democratic Front (DF), will protest at the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in Sarajevo from 19:00 July 25. Attendance could reach the low thousands. While organizers are calling for the OHR to support a non-ethnically based electoral law, it is unclear whether all opposition parties attending the protest similarly support a non-ethnically based system.

Authorities will deploy additional police to monitor and facilitate the gathering. Large crowds and related security measures will likely prompt localized traffic disruptions. While significant violence is not anticipated, scuffles between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruption; leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Allow extra time if traveling in the vicinity of the protest July 25.
