BiH: Activists likely to protest in Banja Luka through mid-December
Activists likely to protest in central Banja Luka, BiH, through at least mid-December. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Activists led by Banja Luka mayor Drasko Stanivukovic are likely to continue protests in central Banja Luka through at least mid-December. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce budgetary changes proposed by the government of Republika Srpska. Stanivukovic announced plans to protest at the National Assembly of Republika Srpska from 10:00 Dec. 11. At least several hundred demonstrators participated in related protests at the Palace of the Republic on Dec. 9 and the National Assembly of Republika Srpska on Dec. 10.
Large law enforcement deployments are likely near all gatherings. The presence of demonstrators and police is likely to disrupt vehicular travel in the area. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or opposed individuals, potentially escalating to clashes, cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
