Authorities in Beni Territory have imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Bulongo and Lume on July 8 following an ADF attack. The curfew will run from 19:00 to 05:00 until further notice. Suspected members of the ADF rebel group attacked both areas overnight July 7-8, killing up to 13 people.

Additional security forces have been deployed to the affected area and are likely to remain in place over the coming days. Further attacks are likely.

Context

The incidents highlight the persistent and elevated threat of violence in eastern regions of the DRC despite the implementation of a State of Siege in Ituri and North Kivu provinces. Multiple armed groups operate in the area. Violence in the region has left hundreds of people dead since 2021.
