Informational

Event

As of July 31, bomb threats and associated disruptions will likely persist in Moldova, particularly in Chisinau and at Chisinau International Airport (KIV), in the coming months. The country has received dozens of bomb threats in recent months. The perpetrators of the threats are unclear; however, some connection to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is likely. Threats have targeted transport hubs, religious sites, and prominent government buildings. The US Embassy in Moldova has issued several security alerts in response to these bomb threats, most recently July 30.

Moldovan authorities will likely continue to respond to and investigate each threat. Officials will likely evacuate affected buildings or transport terminals, resulting in short-term disruptions to operations.

Advice

Heed the advice of local officials. Plan for short-notice localized travel disruptions, particularly if operating near regularly impacted sites. Reconfirm the status of flights before departure. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation.
