Event

A TransNamib train derailed near Otavi (Otjozondjupa Region) late July 21. Officials confirmed that 13 acid tankers and a locomotive were involved in the accident, the cause of which is unknown. The impacted line has been closed. The incident follows a similar incident near the Rossing Uranium Mine (Erongo Region) also on July 21. There have been no casualties reported. TransNamib is a state-owned entity that operates freight and passenger rail services.

Disruptions to regular services are likely along the Walvis Bay to Kranzberg route in and the Oshikango and Grootfontein to Otiwarongo (via Otavi) route in the coming days.
