Warning

Event

Heightened security and disruptions to business and transport will impact the Republic of Congo amid nationwide legislative and municipal elections scheduled July 10. The US Embassy in Brazzaville has cautioned that security forces will deploy during the polls, businesses will be closed, and authorities will erect roadblocks, with permitted vehicular traffic limited to authorized vehicles. Authorities may also block internet and text messaging services or otherwise disrupt cellular communications. Additionally, the country's airports are slated to be closed 06:00-18:00.

Political rallies are possible in cities and towns across the country during and immediately after the elections. Scuffles between supporters of rival political camps cannot be ruled out; clashes between political demonstrators and security forces are also possible, especially if rally participants are disruptive.
