Singapore: Officials to implement heightened security measures, close roads during National Day Parade Aug. 9
Singapore to enact tight security measures, close roads during National Day Parade Aug. 9. Transport disruptions likely.
Event
Authorities will close several roads and divert some bus services in the Marina Bay area at varying timings 07:30 Aug. 9-08:00 Aug. 10 for the National Day Parade at The Float @ Marina Bay. Roads that will be partially or fully shut include Bayfront, Raffles, Republic, and Temasek avenues; Collyer and Raffles quays; Esplanade Drive; Fullerton Road; Marina and Republic boulevards; Nicoll Highway, and Raffles Link. The same streets will also be closed 07:30 July 30-08:00 July 31 for a parade rehearsal. Only security personnel and emergency vehicles can access the affected roads, and authorities encourage travelers to the area to use public transport.
Authorities will likely implement increased security, including deploying additional personnel, to enforce the road closures. Traffic congestion is possible on alternative roads. Officials may intensify security checks in the affected area.
Advice
Allow additional time to reach destinations in or near the Marina Bay area during the road closure period July 30-31 and Aug. 9-10. Seek updated information on possible traffic disruptions; allow additional time to reach destinations in or nearby the Marina Bay area. Remain cooperative if stopped by the police for security checks.
