Police operations are ongoing in Krugersdorp, on July 30, following a major crime incident on July 28. Police arrested 17 suspects in the town early July 30. Approximately 20 assailants attacked a film set at an unused mine in the West Village area July 28. During the attack, at least eight women were raped, and the crew was robbed. Dozens of mostly undocumented foreign nationals have been arrested in connection with the incident and at least two suspects were reportedly killed in a confrontation with police personnel on July 29. Officials have confiscated weapons and explosives. Many of the suspects are suspected illegal miners.

Heightened security measures are likely in the impacted location in the coming days. Additional arrests and confrontations may occur.
