DRC: Commemorative gathering planned in Kinshasa Aug. 2

The Genocost civil society group has called for a commemorative gathering in Kinshasa, Aug. 2. Participants are expected to gather at 16:30 at Place des Evolues to commemorate Congolese that have been killed in various conflicts across the country. The gatherings may draw hundreds of people.

Increased security and localized road disruptions are likely near the protest site. Police may quickly resort to force and riot control tactics to disperse participants if they are overly disruptive. Further gatherings are likely in the coming weeks in urban centers across the country.

Avoid all demonstrations and gatherings. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the protest venue. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately, and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building.
