Authorities have warned that high temperatures are likely to persist across the country through at least Aug. 4, with the highest temperatures likely in the central and southern regions. Some provinces could see temperatures of more than 50 C (122 F). Temperatures are forecast to be less severe in the northern region.

High temperatures could lead to an increased demand for electricity, which might trigger localized brownouts or blackouts, exacerbating hazardous conditions when air conditioning is no longer possible.
