A protest is reportedly occurring in the Jadriyah area of Baghdad Aug. 21. According to reports, employees of the Popular Mobilization Front (PMF) have gathered at the PMF's committee building to denounce the termination of their contracts. There are unconfirmed reports that police have fired into the air to disperse protesters. Police have partially closed several roads in the area.
Increased security, as well as localized transport and business disruptions, are likely in and around the protest area Aug. 21. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out. Security forces could employ riot control measures, such as tear gas and water cannon, to disperse demonstrators.
