New Caledonia: Air Caledonie flight disruptions to continue from Aug. 16 amid renewed tensions with labor union /update 2

New labor action to cause further Air Caledonie flight disruptions in New Caledonia from Aug. 16. Confirm reservations.

Warning

Event

Air Caledonie (TY) workers affiliated with the Territorial Union of the French Confederation of Managers-General Confederation of Managers (UTCFE-CGC) are scheduled to begin to strike Aug. 16. Major flight disruptions are likely in the next few days, and TY authorities are accordingly providing complimentary air ticket changes to travelers. There were no reports of Air Caledonie operating any flights Aug. 15. Future flight operations may be impacted by reduced schedules and further disruptions, such as delays in freight service.

Additionally, the Union of Kanak and Exploited Workers (USTKE) will suspend its labor action until Aug. 20 to ensure its demands to reinstate and train a recently retrenched pilot are executed by Air Caledonie authorities. Further work stoppages and protests may occur if demands are not met; USTKE members and supporters previously demonstrated outside the Noumea Magenta Airport (GEA) terminal. Future gatherings at GEA and smaller gatherings at other main airports in the territory are possible for both labor groups. However, significant traffic delays at terminals are unlikely. Business disruptions are also possible due to prolonged flight suspensions.

Advice

Confirm flights and business appointments. Contact TY to reschedule flights or make alternative arrangements, especially if flying Aug. 16. Do not check out of accommodations until verifying onward travel.
