Warning

Event

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party will protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan office in Islamabad, from 14:00 Aug. 4. Organizers are demanding the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja resign over resolutions passed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provincial assemblies against his alleged political bias. Several hundred to a few thousand people may participate in the rally.

Security personnel will monitor the rally. Traffic restrictions, including road closures are possible to prevent or control the gathering. Localized transport and business disruptions are possible, especially if participants block or march on nearby roadways. Demonstrators may clash with police. Arson, vandalism, and mass arrests cannot be ruled out. Business disruptions are also possible if significant violence occurs.

Advice

Avoid the protest and navigating any roadblocks due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately and seek shelter at a safe nongovernmental building. Plan for possible localized transport and business disruptions. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
