Warning

Event

Activists, including members of various trade unions, opposition parties, civil society organizations, and local residents, plan to march in Callao Aug. 10. The action aims to protest government corruption and commemorate the 186th anniversary of the founding of the Callao constitutional province. Protesters plan to gather outside the Callao Regional Government building starting at 10:00 before embarking on a march along Elmer Faucett Avenue. Thousands of people will probably participate in the event.

Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely near the protest site and march route. Road traffic disruptions may also occur near Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM). While the demonstration will probably pass peacefully, minor skirmishes between police and protesters remain possible.

Advice

Avoid the protest site and march route due to possible skirmishes. Allow additional time to reach destinations near impact areas, including LIM. Reconfirm road traffic conditions and plan for localized transport disruptions.
